YES! We are the moving company founded by the big Samoan guy ...Big Al, he really is BIG! He stands 6 foot 6 inches tall and weighs 325 lbs (of muscle). Big Al's Specialty Movers has a reputation that we take very seriously. In fact our advertising is based on word-of-mouth. Our moving crew is made up of Al's younger/bigger brother Herman, Jack, Lale, Ben, Ivan (Ben's brother), Anthony, Matt, JR (Jack's brother), Jack A, and Jake, a group of guys with a combined 47 years of moving experience. We are a strong, dedicated team with one goal in mind... to take excellent care of one customer at a time. (View our group photos in our photo gallery) The other backbone of the company is the office staff, consisting of Big Al's wife Rhonda, Nancy, Kelly, Beth and Linda (Nancy's sister) and we can't forget Maki the cute little "ankle biter". On any given day you can call the office and hear him in the background, on the job, guarding his girls. Founded in 2003 Al and Rhonda worked together to build the company with what they had, great customer relation skills, man power and the desire to build something great! With a cell phone, pick-up truck and trailer they started the company by word-of-mouth. At home Rhonda would schedule the moves and Al would do most of the moves alone. Soon it all changed! In 2004 Big Al's moved from Hillsboro, OR just over the border to Vancouver, WA. We bought a home with a shop and office in the back. Herman came to town for a visit and never left! By this time the phones were ringing off the hook, and just like an answer to our prayers, Jack and Ivan came on board full time. In 2005 Nancy came along to work in the office. Nancy has built a reputation with our customers and dealers and helped take the business to the next level by organizing and setting up how Big Al's does business. Again needing additional movers, we added two of the industry’s finest, Lale and Ben (Ivan's brother). Meanwhile, the home office was bursting at the seams. In the mornings we had three trucks and employees getting ready for the day. The neighbors were very patient, but it was clear we must move! Then in October a new home for the company was found nearby. The new place had a lot more room, an office, AND a heated warehouse. Life was good! Big Al's finished its 3rd year with over a half million in sales! In 2006 Big Al's was approached by Bill Baxter, the owner of Baxter's Piano Express located in Portland, OR. The Baxters were ready to retire after 40 years in the piano moving business and they wanted to pass down the company to someone who shared their philosophy. More phone lines, computers, a website and trucks were purchased to keep up with the growth. A full-time bookkeeper was needed, we were lucky when Linda came along (Nancy's sister) to fill that need and a whole lot more! Another scheduler position was added. Then Matt, a friend of the family joined the team and the crew began to work like a machine. By the end of the year we found that again, we were bursting at the seams and needed to move again! In 2007 We moved a couple of blocks to a much larger 8,000 square foot office/climate-controlled storage warehouse with a loading dock. Here we are able to house precious customer-owned pianos and household items. Of course, more customers and more moves mean more team members are needed. This year we added JR (Jack's brother), Jack A. and Jake to the moving team along with Kelly and Beth to the scheduling team. Together they completed a crew who care deeply for one another and enjoy what they do everyday. Our philosophy has always been to take excellent care with each and every customer from the first phone call to the last impression, it works for us! We finished 2007 with over a million dollars in sales! Today We serve the 11 Western States with regular routes to Seattle and California. Our goal is to not stop here. We will simply do what we do best, everyday, and keep in mind our original goal was to BUILD SOMETHING GREAT! We want to thank each and every person who had a part in helping us build the company to where we are today, you know who you are, and you'll be in our hearts forever!
